Campus Planning
Edward Adelman's expertise extends beyond facility management to comprehensive campus development and planning for educational institutions and national parks. His diverse experience includes preparing master plans for college and university campuses and development plans for several units of the National Park Service.
Notable projects include facility and visitor use plans for Lowell National Historical Park in Massachusetts and Keweenaw National Historical Park in Michigan. At Salem State University, Edward spearheaded the transformation of a former industrial site into the new Central Campus (now Nancy D. Harrington Campus), addressing space allocation and the backfill of existing spaces that formerly housed the functions that were relocated to the new campus site. These National Parks and college and university campuses share certain essential aspects of entry, arrival, parking, pedestrian circulation, place-making, and wayfinding.
His college and university work encompasses a wide range of campus studies, including student circulation, parking, traffic, housing, and classroom utilization. Edward's expertise led to his selection as an advisor to the Massachusetts Board of Higher Education, studying space utilization and assignment across the 29 public higher education institutions. His expertise includes housing plans and renewal programs for 11 campuses, addressing capacity, condition, and configuration.
Throughout his career, Edward also has been involved in real estate acquisition and disposition, further demonstrating his comprehensive approach to campus development and management.
